Why are you creating more work for yourself?
I have been asking myself this question for the past couple of days as I have been setting up thedaddyvoyage. As someone that works more than full-time hours, I have plenty of things to be getting on with, but writing about the journey to parenthood is important to me. Here’s why…
1. Reflection
How often do you hear people saying ‘Where has this year gone?’ or ‘Hasn’t time flown?’ Far too often, our lives whizz by in a blur and we don’t take time to reflect. I find that writing things down is a great way of reflecting and I’m looking forward to using this blog as a tool to do this.
2. Sharing
I am a massive fan of sharing what goes on in my life and I love reading about others’ lives. Maybe this comes from my love of people-watching (airports are my favourite place to partake in this pastime….!), or maybe I’m just really nosey. Whatever the cause, I like being able to share what’s going on in my life with others. I have friends and family all over the world and it’s almost impossible to keep each of them individually up-to-date with what’s going on in my life, so this will hopefully be a good way of keeping others up-to-date.
3. Networking
I do enjoy a bit of networking. I love networking events and getting to know others with similar interests, both online and in real life. I’m not yet sure how this works in the parent-blog world, but I’m sure that opportunities will arise soon. I am particularly looking forward to following and getting to know other dad bloggers, as we are a rare breed!
4. Creating bedtime reading for my future self
At some point, I’m going to look back on all of this and laugh. I’ll remember how nervous I felt at this point and I’ll certainly laugh at the many mishaps I’m going to make over the next few years. I can’t wait to read these posts back in the future.
Are you a parent blogger? Why did you set up your blog?

This is a funny one. My very first post on my site was titled ‘So what’s this all about then, ha?!’ Yep I’m a F/T SAHD with my two ‘nips’ and the woofie while Mamabear works. I set up my blog after I gave up work due to finding out I’d heart disease and needed 4 stents in my ticker. #gamechanger but it’s been the best decision I’ve ever made!
